A quiet country home with a park-like garden near the Atlantic Coast, ideal for families | House in Percy
5 Bedroom House in Percy-en-Normandie, Percy
Set in a spacious, park-like garden surrounded by old trees, this Norman country house, Le Hamel Castel, offers peace and privacy for up to 10 people (max. 7 adults)—ideal for a larger family (or multiple families) or a group of friends to enjoy a wonderful and relaxing stay.
We completely renovated the spacious 19th-century natural-stone house “Le Hamel Castel” in 2020–2021 with great attention to detail. It was just as important to us to preserve the house’s original charm as it was to combine it with modern design and comfort. We made a conscious effort to prioritize sustainability and durability—whether through the selection of regional building materials, the incorporation of “upcycled” furniture, or by reducing energy and water consumption with modern appliances and high-quality plumbing fixtures.
Spanning three floors, this house offers you a wonderful sense of well-being, comfort, relaxation, and rejuvenation. In addition to the entryway and a restroom, the first floor features both the stylish kitchen-diner and the cozy living room. The high-end kitchen invites you to cook together while also offering ambitious chefs everything they need to treat their housemates to a special meal. After a delicious meal, you can wind down the evening in the living room with a glass of wine or cider while enjoying music from the Bang & Olufsen system, a good book, a romantic movie (Smart TV), or simply sitting in front of the flickering fire in the fireplace.
On the first floor, there are two individually designed bedrooms (“La Prairie,” with a 180x200 bed, and the “Grey Room,” with a 140x200 bed) and two new, high-quality designer bathrooms, each equipped with rain showers and heated towel racks; this way, you can dry off with a warm towel after a nice shower. On the second floor are two more individually furnished rooms (“L’Automne” with two 90x200 beds and “Printemps” with a loft bed and a crib), which are ideal for children and teenagers. This gives them their own space upstairs, which also includes toys.
Another room, “La Pommerie,” which sleeps one additional person, is located on the first floor of the attached wing, directly above the entrance area. Here, you’ll find even more peace and privacy, and in the evening you can gaze at the impressive starry sky through the slanted window.
There are two parking spaces at the back of the house.
Children are very welcome here! Both the house and the garden are designed to meet the needs of children of all ages. In addition to 3 Stokke high chairs, we’re also happy to provide an extra travel crib upon request. The two children’s rooms are stocked with board games and toys (Playmobil, play kitchen, etc.), ensuring entertainment for young and old alike—even on rainy days.
In the garden, bordered by trees and hedges, children can move about freely and let off steam. We offer plenty of play options (e.g., table tennis, badminton and volleyball, slackline, soccer, a tree tent, and—for the little ones—a playhouse with a tractor and wheelbarrow), so boredom is never an issue; this makes children’s hearts race and lets parents relax.
The south-west-facing terrace offers plenty of space to barbecue (Weber grill) with the whole family or a group of friends and spend a cozy and wonderful time together. In the adjacent lounge area, surrounded by plants and with a view of nature, you can relax, read a book in peace, or enjoy a drink. In the evening, you can build a campfire in the fire pit. You can enjoy it either while lying in the lounge chairs or sitting in a circle around the fire. There are plenty of sticks on the spacious property, so you can even bake bread on a stick over the campfire with the kids.
The La Manche department offers a wide variety of opportunities to explore and experience the beautiful natural surroundings. There are numerous hiking trails, bike paths (“Voies Vert”), mountain bike trails, routes across the Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel, horseback riding opportunities, and even rock climbing routes. Not far from the house, there are also short loop trails in the forest that offer an exciting nature experience even for younger children.
In just over half an hour, you can reach the monastery island of Mont-Saint-Michel. The island and the expansive bay have been an UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979 and rank high on the list of France’s “must-see” attractions. At low tide, the island can also be reached on foot across the mudflats—though a guided hike is recommended.
